Academic Success
and
Parent Responsibilities

Katella High School is a standards-based, academically-focused school.  It is our goal to see that all students graduate from Katella High School and have the skills and knowledge to pass the California High School Exit Exam and be successful in the college or career path of their choice.  In order for our staff to achieve this goal, we must work together with every parent.  We only have our students for 6 hours per day.  The rest of the time they are with you, the parent or guardian.

Just as you have expectations of the teachers and school, the school also has expectations of every parent.

I understand that as a parent it is my responsibility to:

      • create a quiet place for my child to study
      • check that homework and assignments are complete
      • communicate with teachers as needed
      • support the school, its policies, and its effort to maintain a safe, academic environment where all teachers can teach and every student has an opportunity to learn
      • call the school if I have any questions

I understand that as a parent, it is my responsibility to ensure that my child:

      • arrives on time to each class
      • is prepared for class each day
      • attends school regularly
      • completes all assignments on time
      • is respectful
      • does not cause or contribute to classroom disruptions
      • follows the school dress code
      • follows all school rules

We realize that with busy schedules it can be difficult to monitor your son or daughter’s progress. We will work to keep you informed.  We expect that when parents and the school staff work as a team, we can ensure that all students will learn and meet the goals of attaining the best high school education possible.
